What?
It is the design of a special work garment that eases the daily operations of street vendors. It focuses on their requirements and the challenges they face in their daily work. Furthermore, it takes a social approach to the realities and conditions of street vendors.
Where?
Plaza de Bolívar, Bogotá, Colombia
(Downtown)
Who?
It is intended for street vendors whose daily income relies on informal jobs, such as selling corn and snacks or taking photos for tourists, to support their families.
Why?
Colombia’s high unemployment rate, which averaged 9.2% in 2016, has driven many families to seek informal employment. These jobs often lack security and stability, require significant physical effort, involve long hours of standing, poor nutrition, difficult working conditions, and the need to carry heavy loads.
Problem statement
Enrique is a street vendor who needs a merchandise loading system because he currently uses his hands, which makes him feel more tired, lacks control and security over the products he sells, and reduces the load capacity.
Goal statement
CornVest will allow users to carry their merchandise more comfortably, improving their comfort and lifestyle positively, while giving them more control over their products. Therefore, through this item, people can better distribute the weight of their products, carry more items, and have easier control over them, making their mobility easier.
